Redford eyeing yet another tax hike

CALGARY, AB (December 19, 2011): Premier Alison Redford’s high-tax agenda came into even sharper focus over the weekend, musing about raising yet another tax in addition to her government contemplating health care premiums and a provincial sales tax.

“This Premier can’t seem to help herself when it comes to raising taxes,” Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith said. “She has clearly decided her government needs more money and it looks like she’s going to hit Albertans’ wallets to get it. She should be looking at ways to reduce the deficit, not ways to punish Alberta families in order to pay for more wasteful spending.”

Wildrose Finance Critic Rob Anderson said Alberta’s budget can be balanced without raising taxes or deep cuts to government services by limiting spending increases and cutting waste.

“The Wildrose has a four-word tax policy: No tax increases, period,” Anderson said. “Alberta has more than enough revenue coming in and the Wildrose understands that we don’t need to be digging into Albertans’ pockets to find more.”
