CHARLEBOIS APPOINTMENT ANOTHER ERROR IN JUDGMENT FOR REDFORD
CALGARY, AB (November 2, 2011): Premier Alison Redford’s pending appointment of Kelley Charlebois to run her Progressive Conservative Association of Alberta reflects a pattern of patronage and poor judgment on the part of a leader elected to change how the PC party operates, Wildrose Leader Danielle Smith said today.
In an open letter to PC members, Smith said appointing Charlebois – who accepted $400,000 in taxpayer money in exchange for providing “oral advice” to his former boss Gary Mar – is the latest in a string of bad decisions signalling to grassroots conservatives that Ms. Redford will continue to ignore them.
“No leader that is committed to small-c conservative values would make an appointment like this,” Smith wrote. “Appointing Mr. Charlebois to such a high profile position in your party sends a troubling message to grassroots conservatives across Alberta.”
The letter also points to Redford’s recent decisions to hold closed door budget consultations, blame municipalities for her party accepting illegal donations, deny a proper health care inquiry, pre-determine transmission line decisions, hold an intentionally short Legislative session to avoid debate, evade establishing fixed election dates and appoint a chief of staff who doesn’t comply with court orders to repay business debts.
The Wildrose stands for free enterprise, less government, increased personal freedoms and democracy.
